About the Workshop

“Finding Presence”

The workshop is designed to unlock the flow of living impulses within the body. By doing so, we allow our attention, intention and awareness to guide our work and flow more naturally.  Utilizing spatial awareness and sensitivity, we will work with qualities of speed,
lightness, heaviness, softness and pliability, stillness and gravity. The primary and practical focus throughout the workshop will be on the delicate meeting point between precision and organicity, awareness of space and one’s ability to react to its constituent elements, and ones ability to improvise within a structure. The overriding emphasis is on developing within oneself what can be called the
‘total act’; a state wherein the performer works toward creating his or her own movement as a theatrical act’ rather than as a technique. Vittoria’s workshop will propose physically demanding tasks that deal with elements of physical, psychological, and emotional risk. These tasks will inherently challenge our various limitations, inviting us to go beyond them.

Born in Rio de Janeiro, Vittoria De Ferrari Sapetto started with classical ballet in Genoa (Italy) at the age of six. Later on, she studied African dance and continued into modern jazz and contemporary. Sher moved to Brussels in 2002 and collaborated with Jan Fabre, Quan Bui Ngoc, Davis Freeman, Frey Faust and Felix Ruckert. She cofounded the dance collective 2muchcompany with which she develops her own projects. In 2012, she danced in the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in London in a choreography by Akram Khan. In 2013, she started collaborating with Eastman/Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui.
